This time our featured teacher is a guitar teacher, composer, recording engineer and yoga instructor all rolled into one! Learn more about Michael and his current projects in our latest Teacher Spotlight video.
Writer, performer, and educator, Michael S. is one of Forbes Music’s most popular teachers, combining a variety of styles, methodology, repertoire, and techniques into his open and adaptive teaching style. He has experience writing and performing in a variety of ensembles from rock/jazz bands to orchestras, world music ensembles, and everything in between. In 2010 he founded the production studio and record label Full Stop Art where he stays busy as a producer, guitarist, composer, and audio engineer.
In addition to earning his B.A. in Music at Hamilton College and M.M. in Music Theory at UMASS Amherst, Michael is a certified yoga instructor (RYT-200) and his guitar lessons often incorporate body/kinesthetic awareness and mindfulness practices. No two students are alike and so tailoring an individual approach based on personal goals is paramount. The goal is always to have fun playing and learning about music! His beagle, Franklin, agrees that Mike is a great teacher despite Franklin still not being able to play well due to a lack of opposable thumbs.
