How long is a typical lesson?

Your lessons can be as long as you like! We find that most choose to schedule at least 45 or 60 minutes per student. FMC Lessons begin at 30 minutes and increase in increments of 15.

How long should my lessons be?

Most lessons follow a similar format, beginning with a warm up or tuning session, a review of previously covered material, introduction of new concepts, repetition and rehearsal of these concepts, and a short debriefing chat where a practice plan for the next week is set. When deciding how long to book with your teacher, consider your lesson goals. For example, if you are looking to significantly improve your playing technique, an hour long lesson may be best.

What lesson length is appropriate for my child?

30 minute lessons are great amount of time for young children with shorter attention spans. Kids eight and older tend to do better with 45 minute lessons, our average lesson length. A hour lesson is a great choice because it allows students and teachers to work through more material in finer detail.

If you’re interested in working on more than one instrument in your lessons, like piano and voice, we recommend 45 minutes at minimum, but ideally 60 minutes or more.
