The Unique Family Of Double Reeds
A double reed is a type of reed used to produce sound in various wind instruments. Unlike traditional woodwinds like clarinet and saxophone, double reeds like oboe, bassoon, and English Horn feature two reeds, or pieces of cane, vibrating against each other to produce a sound. The unmistakable sounds of these beautiful instruments can be heard in orchestras worldwide.

Oboe
While one of the more difficult woodwind instruments to play, it's worth the effort. It takes time to even produce a sound and control it often gives young students difficulty.
Bassoon
The bassoon is a woodwind instrument in the double reed family that plays music written in the bass and tenor clefs, and occasionally the treble. It has a rich, expressive sound and warm vibrato.
English Horn
Much like an oboe, but a bit larger and one and a half times the length, the sound of the English horn is lower and deeper than that of the oboe and the bell more bulbous in shape.
