Make A Viral TikTok Song With Garageband

Do you love TikTok?? Ever wondered how to make songs that go viral?

If you’re already watching Youtube or TikTok videos on an iPad, you’re in luck. You can use Apple’s free product Garageband and get started today! Don’t know much about writing songs or beats? That’s ok! We’ll be using Garageband’s Apple Loops (we’ll get there in a minute) to make it easy for you. In under an hour, you’ll walk away with your very own 15 second viral (fingers crossed!) song. This is a perfect course if you’re new to digital music writing, but love music and can’t wait to learn the basics.

Apple Loops are pre-recorded melodies, riffs, or beats that you can use to easily mix and match. These loops can be repeated over and over as much as you want. Garageband has a smart way to make sure any loops work together. For example, even if you combine a drum beat and a bassline with different speeds, Garageband will automatically sync it up. It’s like magic! You can copy and paste these loops or give them simple sound effects.

Shayna is an experienced percussionist, writer, producer and educator. As digital tools became more prevalent and accessible for musicians and artists, she quickly learned how to produce songs and became well versed in GarageBand, Ableton Live and other digital music producing softwares. Learning a new software can feel overwhelming, but it’s actually quite intuitive (just like using a smartphone) if you get into the flow.

There are many online courses for music production out there, but Shayna’s classes will help students develop their individual voices and answer all personal questions to make their songs come to life.

This class is perfect for: This class is perfect for students who want to learn how to write and produce songs with GarageBand, but are still beginners and don’t necessarily know how to read or write music. Our focus is to learn the workflow of digital music and create a short song with a little help using Apple Loops. It’s like having training wheels while learning how to ride a bike. If you love what you learned, you can take the training wheels off and build on top. You can learn how to create your own beats, melodies and chords without the loops.

Requirements:

• Students must be old enough to have basic computer operating skills.
• Students should ideally have an iPad with Garageband installed and another device (like a laptop or phone) to run Zoom.
• Students can also use a Mac laptop and run both Garageband and Zoom. (There will be a small adjustment to the workflow since the Garageband on laptops and iPads are designed differently)

By the end of the class, students will:

• Learn the basic workflow using GarageBand (create and save a file)
• Be able to search and choose Apple Loops you like from many musical styles
• Mix and match a melody, a bassline, a drum beat and harmony parts using Apple Loops
• Learn about tempo, basic rhythm, song structure
• Learn how to use basic sound effects such as reverb and echo
• Create a 15-second TikTok ready song that you can upload or share with your friends or the world!
